dumb一般指根本沒(méi)有說(shuō)話能力，常指動(dòng)物；mute強(qiáng)調(diào)為某種原因而沉默；speechless指啞口無(wú)言的。dumb，mute這兩個(gè)形容詞均有“啞的，不能說(shuō)話的”之意。dumb可與mute換用，但dumb指原本沒(méi)有說(shuō)話能力或失去了說(shuō)話能力。mute多指因后天疾病而引起的聾啞，有時(shí)也指因故不說(shuō)話。
