詞源詞根法
一場(chǎng)討論有時(shí)會(huì)導(dǎo)致激烈的爭(zhēng)論，甚至?xí)a(chǎn)生不同的派系，這大概是discussion一詞作“討論”解的由來(lái)，因?yàn)樗菑睦≌Z(yǔ)的discussus派生出來(lái)的，原義是“四分五裂”。

discussion,chat,conversation,dialogue
這四個(gè)詞都可作“談話”解。其區(qū)別在于：
conversation是非正式會(huì)談，可能是熱烈和令人興奮的，也可能是乏味和令人厭煩的；
chat是朋友間非常隨便的交談，所談的往往是些有趣的事，但不是很重要的事；
discussion一般指嚴(yán)肅地討論某一個(gè)問(wèn)題或難題，并且尋求結(jié)論或解決的辦法，discussion有時(shí)可轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)檗q論；
dialogue是兩個(gè)或兩個(gè)以上的人之間的對(duì)話以及小說(shuō)、戲劇等中的對(duì)白。
例如：In my conversation with him,I mentioned your business plan.我和他談話時(shí)曾提及你的營(yíng)業(yè)計(jì)劃。
The two friends sat in a corner and had a chat about the weather.兩個(gè)朋友坐在屋角閑聊天氣。
There was a general discussion following his speech.他的講話完后進(jìn)行了一般性的討論。
There is some good descriptive writing in the novel,but the dialogue is poor.這小說(shuō)里有些很好的描寫(xiě)，但對(duì)白很差。
單詞用法
discussion的基本意思是“討論”“商討”。表示討論的“行為”，既可作可數(shù)名詞，也可作不可數(shù)名詞。discussion后可接介詞about,of,on引出討論的內(nèi)容。under discussion在句中作表語(yǔ)或位于名詞之后作定語(yǔ)，而不可用作狀語(yǔ)。
